AhlulBayt News Agency: The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the French charge d’affaires in Tehran to formally protest remarks made by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot regarding an Iranian film’s recent award at the Cannes Film Festival.
According to IRNA, during a meeting on Sunday, Mohammad Tanhaei, head of the Second Europe Department at the Foreign Ministry, conveyed Iran’s strong objections, condemning Barrot’s statements as “insulting and unfounded.”
Tanhaei denounced the remarks as interference in Iran’s domestic affairs, describing them as irresponsible and provocative. He also called on the French Foreign Ministry to provide an official explanation regarding the comments.
Additionally, he accused the French government of leveraging the Cannes Film Festival as a political tool against Iran. He argued that France, as a firm supporter of the Israeli regime, lacks the credibility to make human rights allegations or pass judgments on other nations.
In response, the French charge d’affaires stated that he would relay Iran’s concerns to his government.
